Additional training programme

Intercultural Communication and Translation

The programme "Translator in Intercultural Communication" aims to equip individuals with the necessary professional competences to excel in a new type of professional role within the field of intercultural communication as a translator. Intercultural communication is a complex and dynamic field that requires specialized skills and knowledge to effectively bridge linguistic and cultural gaps between individuals and groups from different backgrounds. By focusing on the role of the translator in this context, the programme seeks to address the growing demand for professionals who can facilitate communication and understanding across diverse cultures.

Participants in the programme will develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles and theories of intercultural communication, as well as practical skills in translation and interpretation. They will learn how to navigate cultural differences, handle sensitive communication issues, and adapt their language and communication style to effectively convey meaning across cultural boundaries. The programme will also emphasize the importance of ethical and professional conduct in intercultural communication, equipping participants with the tools they need to navigate complex and challenging situations with integrity and professionalism.

Upon completion of the programme, participants will be well-prepared to take on roles as translators in a variety of settings, including international organizations, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and multinational corporations. They will have the skills and knowledge necessary to work effectively with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds, helping to facilitate mutual understanding and collaboration in an increasingly interconnected and globalized world.

Graduates who have completed the additional training programme will be able to carry out professional activities in various organisations and institutions:

- specialised translation bureaus;

- travel agencies, agencies, bureaus;

- international organisations, companies;

- hotels, restaurants;

- presentations, negotiations, business meetings;

- museums, galleries, exhibitions.

The types of professional activities of graduates who have mastered the programme are:

- gathering information about the upcoming event and conditions of translation;

- introduction to the subject area of translation;

- accompanying the customer in accordance with the pre-agreed programme in order to ensure intercultural communication;

- interlingual interpreting at the level of a short phrase or sentence in the domestic sphere;

- interlingual translation of a text using available templates;

- self-editing of the translation text;

- formatting of the translation text in accordance with the requirements ensuring authenticity of the original format;

- undergoing notarisation of the translator's signature on translated documents.

Entry Requirements: participants with a Pre-Intermediate level of English at CEFR level A2 having/receiving secondary professional education or higher education
Course credits: 25 credits (920 academic hours)
Modes of study: face-to-face tutorials (part-time) supported by our virtual learning environment
Course language: English, French, German
Course duration: 10 months
Issued document: Additional training diploma of the established sample with the qualification "Translator in Intercultural Communication"
